2018 Fredonia Farm Festival
Caroline Wood has been named grand marshal of the 50th Annual Fredonia Farm Festival taking place August 24-26, 2018.
Born in Dunkirk, Mrs. Wood, 92, was raised in a Fredonia home that has been in the Wood Family since 1887. A graduate of Fredonia High School, Cornell University with a Bachelor of Arts degree, and State University of New York at Fredonia Master of Science degree.
Mrs. Wood taught primary grades at the S.G. Love School in Jamestown from 1948 to 1959. Then from 1959 until her retirement in 1981, she was a first grade teacher in the Fredonia Central School system. Her teaching career covered thirty three years of service where she touched the lives of many.
In 1978 she married Melvin Cranston and together they operated a grape farm called Caromel Farms, which now is called Woodhaven Farms. At the age of 92 she still operates a farm with 36 acres of grapes, and is a lover of all animals, especially dogs.
She has been a member of the Fredonia Grange No 1 since the age of 12 and was a member of the Junior Grange prior to that. She is a seventh degree member of the Grange, and was a member of the Pamona Grange. She is also a member of many other organizations around the community.
Caroline will be joining us with the Grand Opening Ceremony on Friday, August 24 at noon in the Gazebo. She will also be riding in the parade and have the Grand Marshal pick at the Antique Car Show on Sunday, August 26.
